Ross Taylor has broken his silence on a farcical Sussex defeat – and insisted they can still claim a place in the T20 sun.

Sharks host Surrey in the NatWest T20 Blast at Hove tonight (7pm) needing a win to re-ignite quarter-final hopes.

Skipper Taylor was unhappy at being forced to play in rain when they lost at Somerset on Sunday but believes a last-eight place is not out of reach.

He told The Argus: “Realistically we are going to have to win four or five out of six.

“It has been a frustrating campaign with the weather but hopefully we can get some fine days and get on a bit of a roll.”

He added: “I don’t know how much I can elaborate about Sunday but I’ve never played in anything like it in terms of rain.

“It was a lot heavier than in the game that got called off on Friday against Middlesex.

“The wicket was mud. All you ask for is a fair contest and I don’t think that was a fair contest.”

Luke Wright (back) again misses out but Tymal Mills returns to a 13-man squad for tonight's match and that at Kent tomorrow.

Of the 14 players who travelled to Taunton, Ollie Robinson and Harry Finch are the two to miss out.

Squad: Taylor (captain), Jordan, Beer, Brown, Briggs, Nash, Van Zyl, Wiese, Evans, Garton, Archer, Mills, Salt.
