LUKE WELLS expects more of his Sussex colleagues to join the 100 Club as they prepare for action at Hove.

The county kick off their home programme on Friday when Gloucestershire visit in division two of the Specsavers County Championship.

Middlesex, currently 2/1 title favourites despite a shock defeat at Derby, follow them to the 1st Central County Ground a week later.

Wells, who made his first century of the season at Leicester on Monday, said: “Three guys have already got hundreds this year which is really good signs.

“The way other guys are batting I feel like there are runs for them just around the corner if they trust themselves and stick to what is good for them.

“It is also a good thing we are getting runs lower down the order as well.”

David Wiese and Michael Burgess have both passed three figures, making Sussex the only county in either division with three centurions already.

In addition, Luke Wright went close, Ben Brown has a pair of 50s, Ishant Sharma set a career best and Wells expects Harry Finch and Phil Salt to be among the runs soon.

Last year’s leading division two run-scorer added: “Trying to repeat a season like that has its own pressures.

“It’s all about just trying to bring it back down to what makes you perform at the time and the mental toughness to repeat, ball after ball.”

George Garton has pushed his claim for a place against Gloucestershire as he returns from a side problem.

The fast bowler took three wickets for a combined Essex and Sussex Second XI against Hampshire and Surrey at the Ageas Bowl yesterday.

Head coach Jason Gillespie has been targeting Garton for a call-up in the two forthcoming home games although last week hinted the Middlesex fixture was his best bet.
