Jofra Archer will play some part in the Royal London One-Day Cup group stage, which starts today.

And it could be sooner rather than later.

Sussex expect him back next week if, as expected his Rajasthan Royals outfit do not progress in the IPL.

He could conceivably be around for the trip to Somerset next Tuesday in the 50-overs competition, if not too tired to play.

Sussex coach Jason Gillespie said: “Jofra has been playing some good cricket.

“He will be very keen to play when he comes back. His last game is on Saturday so he would be back on Sunday.

“The experience he has had is invaluable at such a young age and at such a young stage of his career.

“It’s great for him as a cricketer and, just as importantly, as a person.”

Chris Jordan will be back rather later, even though he has not been playing for high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gillespie said: “He isn’t playing but he will still be learning a lot out there.

“The Sunrisers are a good side, top of the tree, and I’m guessing he will be required right the way through the play-off stuff as back-up.”
