Chris Adams has been confirmed as the new Cricket Manager of Surrey.

The former Sussex skipper is joining on a three-year contract and starts work at The Oval in January.

The 38-year-old has also announced his retirement from playing after 21 years in the game, the last 11 of them as the most successful captain in Sussex's history.

He led them to eight trophies including three County Championships but has been keen to start the next phase of his career after playing.

He said: “Sussex has been an incredible part of my life,” he said.

"I have enjoyed some fantastic times and leaving has been incredibly difficult. There are not many things which could have taken me away but Surrey represents the opportunity I have been looking for."
