Dwayne Smith will make his 50 overs debut for Sussex in Sunday’s Friends Provident Trophy semi-final against Gloucestershire.
The 26-year-old from Barbados has played all his one-day cricket so far in either the Twenty20 Cup or Pro40 League.
But coach Mark Robinson has confirmed that the all-rounder will be part of Sussex’s bid to reach their second Lord’s final in four years.
He said: “We have some difficult decisions to make about selection but we have to accomodate Dwayne – he’s got to play. Not only is he a gun fielder he also hits the ball out of the ground and he can bowl as well.”
Luke Wright did not play in the quarter-final win over Somerset either and is another likely starter on Sunday so two of the players who got Sussex this far could miss out.
Robinson added: “We have played a lot of cricket since Taunton five weeks ago. A lot of players have done really well and there has been the odd upset as well.
“We have gone through a lot of different personnel, particularly opening the batting, and it’s all about getting the balance right in the team we choose and that will be hard.”
