Monty Panesar believes he has matured as a cricketer and that Sussex will feel the benefit this season.

The 26-year-old was introduced to the media at Hove today after signing a three-year contract last November.

Panesar is training with his new team-mates after spending the winter playing as Highveld Lions' overseas player in South Africa's first-class competition.

And he insists his experiences with Lions can only help him at his new county.

He said: "I wanted to take more responsibility for my development and going to South Africa was part of that, I feel I have become a more mature cricketer.

"I had to get used to a different team culture with the Lions and that is going to help now I've come to Sussex, getting to know the guys and developing new relations in the team."
