Monty Panesar took his first Sussex wicket today as the Sharks made a winning start to their pre-season tour.
They beat a Fly Emirates XI boosted by a guest appearance from Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi by seven runs in Dubai on day one of the Pro-Arch T20 tournament.
On a slow, low-bouncing pitch Sussex made 110-7 with Chris Nash top scoring with 45 off 42 balls. Michael Thornely (18) was the only other batsman to post double figures.
The Emirates XI were then restricted to 103-8 with Panesar taking 1-14 and man of the match Nash 2-17.
Sussex play Surrey tomorrow and Cape Cobras on Sunday with the final also scheduled for Sunday.
