Rana Naved may extend his stay as Sussex’s overseas player because of injury to Yasir Arafat.
Arafat, due to replace Rana at the end of May, has pulled out of Pakistan’s squad for the Twenty20 World Cup because of a hamstring injury.
Sussex are trying to discover how long he will be out for but chief executive Dave Brooks admitted that keeping Rana, who took two wickets against Surrey yesterday, is an option.
Meanwhile all-rounder Robin Martin-Jenkins savoured the wicket of Surrey run-machine Mark Ramprakash for just five on the first day of the Championship game at Hove.
Martin-Jenkins took 4-43 from 18 overs and said: “To see the back of him so early was a real bonus as he averages 75 against us. Having said that he will probably go and get a hundred in the second innings.”
