Naveed Arif has signed a new one-year deal to stay at Sussex.
The left-arm seamer had a mixed first season at Hove last summer but showed enough promise to convince coach Mark Robinson he was worth another contract.
The 30-year-old was a regular in the CB40 side which reached the semi-finals and also featured in five T20 games and four Championship matches.
Arif made an instant impact by scoring an unbeaten century in the Championship to help save the game against Lancashire at Hove and finished on a high by claiming 4-41 in the victory at Trent Bridge in the final game of the campaign.
He said: "I want to say thank you to Sussex for keeping faith in me. I know I have so much more to give the team in 2012 and I aim to establish myself as a regular.
"I enjoyed my first year but I have to show the consistent form to be selected to play in all forms all the time, which I will do."
Robinson said: "I'm delighted that Naveed has agreed to come back for another year. Despite his age, he is still in many ways inexperienced. He is still learning and has got lots more to give."
