Monty Panesar has been told to prepare for action after receiving his latest England call.
The Sussex star returns to the fold as second spinner, behind Graeme Swann, in the squad to play Pakistan in three Tests in the United Arab Emirates.
Panesar, 29, saw precious little action in a similar role in last winter’s Ashes series.
But he has been advised things could be different this time with pitches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi likely to offer turn.
The first Test gets under way in Dubai on January 17 as Pakistan are forced out of their own country by security concerns.
National selector Geoff Miller said: “Monty had a super season with Sussex last year, and he could play a very good part.”
