Sussex's Monty Panesar returned to the England Test team today, for the first time since the start of the 2009 Ashes and took a wicket.
England chose Panesar as a second spinner, alongside Graeme Swann, in a four-man attack completed by James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
Panesar's inclusion was the only change for the second Test of three against Pakistan, the slow left-armer coming in for injured fast bowler Chris Tremlett - who is to fly home after suffering a recurrence of his back injury.
Panesar was called into the action for the 10th over, in his 40th Test and his first since the start of the 2009 Ashes in Cardiff. He dropped Mohammad Hafeez, a sharp return catch low to his left.
But that was irrelevant as the next ball went on with the arm and bowled the same batsman middle-and-leg on the back foot. Pakistan were 256-7, Swann (three) and Stuart Broad (three) taking the other wickets.
