Magoffin shines as Sussex complete emphatic win

Steve Magoffin starred on his debut as Sussex completed a ten-wicket victory over reigning champions Lancashire at Aigburth.

The Australian seamer claimed 7-34 as Lancashire were bowled out for 176 in their second innings, leaving Sussex needing a solitary run to seal victory.

They wrapped up a 22-points win with more than four sessions remaining as Ed Joyce smacked the third ball from Simon Kerrigan to the boundary.

Lancashire began the day on 85-4 and Luke Proctor and Ashwell Prince moved it on to 137-4 before Monty Panesar broke their partnership of 88 by having Proctor caught by Luke Wells for 46.

That sparked a collapse with Lancashire losing their last six wickets for just 37.

Magoffin had Prince caught behind for a 140-ball 58 before he had Glen Chapple caught at slip by Mike Yardy for a duck.

Saj Mahmood made just one before he became Panesar's third victim of the innings (3-54) while Magoffin wrapped up the victory by removing Kyle Hogg and Kerrigan after lunch to finish with match figures of 9-55.

What a debut by the mighty Magoff! Nine wickets in the match. Looks like another shrewd signing by Robbo.
