Rain to the rescue as Sussex escape with a draw
11:55am Sunday 29th April 2012 in Cricket News By Steve Hollis
Sussex have drawn their County Championship clash with Warwickshire after rain completely washed out the final day at Hove.
The umpires called the match to an end at 11.30am on Sunday after just eight overs had been possible on Saturday due to heavy rain.
The conditions helped Sussex get out of a tricky spot after slumping to 80-5 in pursuit of Warwickshire massive first innings total of 545. Sussex picked up five points from the match while Warwickshire collected seven.
Luke Wells, Matt Prior and Murray Goodwin all fell within the space of nine balls of Saturday before the heavens opened again to deny the Bears a chance to push for victory.
It means Sussex have now won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three games and leaves them joint fourth in division one alongside Surrey and Middlesex.
Sussex play a three-day game against Leeds/Bradford University on Tuesday before taking on West Indies over three days on Saturday.
They return to Championship action at home to Lancashire next Wednesday.
