Ed Joyce made an impressive start to life as Sussex captain on the opening day of their County Championship clash with Worcestershire at Hove.

Joyce - who has taken over following Mike Yardy's decision to step down yesterday - elected to field first after winning the toss and it proved an inspired decision as his bowlers skittled Worcestershire for just 162.

Steve Magoffin once again led the way with figures of 4-34 while Amjad Khan took 3-36 and Jimmy Anyon chipped in with two wickets.

Moeen Ali was the only batsman to offer much resistance as he made 43 with Roland Jones the next top scorer with an unbeaten 30.

Sussex were left with seven overs to negotiate under the floodlights and managed it successfully as Joyce and Chris Nash steered them to 22-0 at the close.

Magoffin bowled a superb opening spell as Worcestershire slumped to 32-3 after rain had delayed the start until 2.15pm. James Anyon then took two early wickets after tea with Khan and Monty Panesar finishing off Worcestershire.

Nash will resume on 15 tomorrow morning with Joyce on seven.
