Sharks sink leaders to go top

Sussex returned to the top of Group C in the CB40 after victory in their must-win clash with Warwickshire at Hove.

Mike Yardy hit 61 as Sussex struggled to 199-9 from their 40 overs but it proved more than enough as Warwickshire were bowled out for 182 in the final over.

Will Beer took 3-27 and Chris Nash 3-27 to send the Sharks a point clear of Warwickshire and Kent in the race for the one automatic spot in the semi-finals.

Sussex lost early wickets and were in deep trouble on 129-6 but Yardy put on 50 with Kirk Wernars (37 not out) to get them up to a defendable total.

Warwickshire would still have fancied their chances but after making a solid start lost wickets at regular intervals as Sussex applied the pressure.

Yardy conceded just 23 runs from his eight overs and the Bears lost their cool as the run rate began to rise.

Beer dismissed Tim Ambrose, Jim Troughton and Darren Maddy while Nash picked up the scalps of Rikki Clarke, Keith Barker and Jeetan Patel.

A couple of sixes late on from Stefan Piolet gave Bears a glimmer of hope but they fell well short.

Sussex now travel to Yorkshire for their penultimate game on Sunday knowing victory would likely set up a winner takes all clash with Kent at Canterbury.

Well done Sharks. Was only able to watch on telly and had to endure the dreadful Willis saying how Warks would get 200 easily. Eat your words. Also note that he's predicted results right 50% of the time. Thats exactly the same result as tossing a coin. Expert???!!
