Rudolph passed 50 for the ninth time in the Championship and will resume tomorrow on 70 with McGrath 5. The lead is 102 going into the final day. What are the chances of either side winning? Slim I would say unless Yorkshire decide to open the game up to go for the win which would keep the up. We'll see anyway. unfortunately I am on football duty tomorrow but keep an eye on the main site for reports later in the day and join me next week from Trent Bridge when Sussex's first division fate will be determined.
Yardy makes the breakthrough as he bowls Lyth round his legs for 31 as the left-hander tried to glance down the leg side. Chawla straight back into the attack now. 14 overs left tonight, Rudolph is 39 and Anthony McGrath is the new batsman.
Breakthrough as Sayers (31) pushed forward to Collymore and is caught behind. Regulation nick and just what Sussex needed. Rudolph is 15 and about to be joined by Adam Lyth.
Three overs from Collymore up the hill and now Chawla is bowling with three men in catching positions. Sayers is 7 and Rudolph 3.
Two wickets in two balls ends the innings and Yorkshire do get their three bowling points. Collymore, having cut Wainwright for his only four off the previous delivery, and then Lewry both fell lbw leaving RHB 171 not out. So Sussex have a lead of 45 but they will be disappointed to have lost 5-56 in 15 overs after lunch. Makes the draw more likely but we will have 44 overs in the final session.
Collymore offering stoical support here to RHB who is 171 as Sussex try to deny their opponents a third bowling bonus point. They need to take another wicket by the 120th over. Hoggard and Wainwright doing the bowling. Collymore is 2 and the lead is now 41.
The lead is 22 but Sussex have lost three wickets in five overs to stall their momentum. Chawla the latest to go, caught at slip off Rudolph as he edged a ball from Wainwright which seemed to deflect off Brophy's gloves and loop up. He made 6. RHB 154 and Corey Collymore is with him.
All too brief from Smith who is out for 11. Done by the pitch there though as the ball stopped in the pitch and his drive was held above his head by Shahzad in his follow through. RHB just got to 150 and Chawla is with him now on 1.
Some inspiration for the Tykes as Rudolph moves smartly to his left to hold on at slip after Hodd edged Shahzad as he pushed forward. Good ball and an equally good catch to end a stand of 99 in 23 overs.
Thanks for your comments Ryfish and Loch Lomond David. RHB certainly favours the offside but he hits straight too. What has been most impressive has been his footwork against the spinners. He's not afraid to come down the pitch and has refused to be tied down.
I'd say Rayner and Hopkinson will fear for their places now. RHB bowled his off-breaks very tidily yesterday and he could definitely support Chawla if he returns next season as Chawla will bowl most of the spinners' overs. And I'd have Gatting in ahead of Hopkinson next week at TB.
Smith has already got to 10 with two fours and Sussex are now level.
RHB has got his eye in after lunch and just biffed Hoggard through the covers for his second successive boundary, having pulled the previous ball for four. He is onto 148 and Hodd 22. Stand now worth 99 in 18 overs.
RHB departs to a standing ovation with 133 to his name and 101 runs in the session - the best innings of the season in the context of Sussex's situation at the bottom of the table. Hodd 15 and Sussex trail by 33 at the break. Back in 40 minutes.
RHB onto 125 with three fours and a six in five balls from Wainwright and Rafiq. Outstanding batting. Good use of the feet against the spinners and he's finding the gaps uneeringly. There has been a discernable mood change here today. RHB has taken the game by the scruff of the neck and they are only 42 runs behind now. Yorkshire have taken the new ball now with Hoggard steaming in up the slope. Important Sussex get through to lunch with these two still there. Hodd doing a decent support job with 15.
If Sussex go on to win this game and save their first division status then they will have RHB to thank. He's just got to his hundred with a drive down the ground for his 12th four. So far he's faced 126 balls and this morning he's added 68 in just 19 overs and really took the attack to Yorkshire. Great to see a young player breaking through. Next landmark for him has to be his c-b - he got 106 against Cambridge University at Fenner's earlier this season. Hodd is 5 not out.
Goodwin goes for 63, his highest score of the season here at Hove, bowled round his legs by Wainwright in his second over since coming into the attack at the sea end for Rafiq. Bad misjudgement that by Goodwin who will be furious with himself. Still, he's helped RHB put on 128 in 32 overs for the fifth wicket. He faced 125 balls and hit six fours.
We're getting some extra entertainment at the moment. The Red Arrows have been flying over the ground as part of the White Air show on the seafront: very impressive it has been too. RHB is 75 and has been joined by Andy Hodd.
Second batting point for Sussex and 50s for Goodwin and RHB in the same over. Goodwin's came from 101 balls with five fours while RHB has injected some momentum into the innings. He's faced 77 balls and hit five fours as well, the latest in this Rafiq over through mid-wicket. Next ball, however, he chinese cut and was lucky to get away with that indiscretion and in the previous over a thick edge off Shahzad dropped just short of slip. 24 runs in four overs so far this morning.
Good morning everyone and welcome to Hove for our coverage of day three of Sussex v Yorkshire. Big day this. Sussex will resume on 233-4 and were talking positively last night about batting through the day and getting themselves a lead. Good to hear, let's see if it becomes reality. Just heard tomorrow's forecast isn't great so the chances of a positive result - and a Sussex win - have lessened. Anyway, Goodwin is 44 and Hamilton-Brown 32 when we start again at 10.30am. Not a great day weather-wise. It's dry but cold and very overcast. But we will start on time.
Don't forget you can leave any comments or observations throughout the day. Are Sussex going to stay up?

Quick query about RHB: does he favour scoring in one area or does he play the ball all over the park?
