Lewes hope a spot of team bonding can see them finish a frustrating week on a high.

The Rookettes were denied the chance to build on their encouraging recent form when their Premier League south clash with Charlton Athletic was postponed on Sunday due to a waterlogged pitch at the Dripping Pan.

Instead they will go in search of a fifth win in seven games at Plymouth Argyle this weekend with manager John Donoghue hoping the gruelling 450-mile round trip broken up by an overnight stay on Saturday night will prove worthwhile.

Donoghue said: “It is our longest journey of the season and the only time we stay overnight. It’s about five and a half hours for those who live in Lewes and we’ve got some players who come from Eastbourne so that adds another 30 minutes on top of it.

“It does create a few problems because you’ve got players who need to take time off work on Saturday and then there is the expense of it all which is not insignificant for a club like ours.

“But it is also an opportunity for a bit of team bonding. Some of the players don’t live locally so the only opportunity they have to spend time with the rest of the squad is at training and matches. It should be good for morale but only if we win as it will be a long drive back if we lose!”

Plymouth are bottom of the table and have lost their last six games, including being thumped 9-1 at leaders Cardiff City last Sunday.
