A bit like Chris Hughton at Albion, Whitehawk boss Steven King will concentrate on the positives as he looks to end a mini slump.

The Seagulls have yet to lose away from home in the Championship this season, their only defeat coming at Walsall in the Capital One Cup.

Whitehawk’s away record is comparable as they have lost just once away from home in all competitions during the current campaign – to bottom side Basingstoke in October.

Among a series of impressive results on their travels, the Hawks have drawn 2-2 at runaway Vanarama National League south leaders Ebbsfleet United, won 1-0 at second in the table Maidstone United and drawn 1-1 in the FA Cup at League Two Dagenham and Redbridge.

They head to mid-table Bishop’s Stortford today looking for a first win since that triumph at Maidstone on December 8 – a sequence which spans five games, including two against higher league opposition in cups and three in the league, resulting in them slipping out of the play-off positions.

They are currently two places and two points off the top five and King believes they can go into today’s game in confident mood.

He said: “We have only lost one game away from home in six months and that was at Basingstoke.

“Our away form is really good and we must remember that as we look to get back to winning ways.

“It is difficult to say why (the away form is so good while the home record is not so impressive) because we approach games exactly the same way.”

French midfielder Stephane Ngamvoulou has joined National League north side Hednesford Town – managed by former Chelsea defender Frank Sinclair – on loan.

That should free up funds to allow King to try to sign the striker which he desperately needs to get Hawks firing again.

Jake Robinson serves a one-match suspension, leaving Danny Mills as the only recognised striker in the squad.

Nick Arnold is also banned this weekend, as he starts a two-match suspension, which again leaves Hawks short on numbers with Belgian defender Bryan van den Bogaert having joined Ebbsfleet this week.

King is keen to sign fellow left-back Craig Braham-Barrett – who is on loan from Ebbsfleet – on a permanent basis but says those discussions will take place when his temporary spell ends next week.

He said: “Craig is keen to stay until the end of the season and we would like him. I have been really pleased with him but we will have to see what happens.”

Centre-back Paul Lorraine is back in the squad at Bishop’s Stortford after missing the last three games with a fatigue related hamstring injury, having returned in late November from more than a year out with a serious knee injury.
