Steven King has told his Whitehawk players to forget about the FA Cup as they look to extend their unbeaten record.

Hawks host mid-table Truro City in National League south with an opportunity to go second in the table.

They are currently on a 12-match unbeaten run, having lost just once all season.

That sequence includes eight wins, the latest being 2-1 in an FA Cup replay at Gosport Borough on Tuesday which took Whitehawk through to the fourth qualifying round for only the second time in the club’s history.

They will now host Poole Town at the Enclosed Ground next Saturday but King wants his players fully focused on today's league game.

King said: “For me, the romance of the FA Cup is fantastic but the league is the most important thing.

“We need to keep this run going so that we can try to close the gap on Ebbsfleet.

“They go to Gosport this weekend and that will be a tough game.

“We need to finish better than last year when we were fourth. We need to improve on that in my opinion. That is how I judge myself.”

King, though, has been impressed by his side’s mental strength to keep churning out results.

Their only defeat this campaign was a 1-0 loss at home to Bath City, who were top of the table at the time.

The Hawks boss said: “Winning breeds confidence, it becomes a habit. The determination, the desire to get something out of every game is there for all to see.

“There is a togetherness in the squad and that is clear.”

Defender Jordan Rose, who has been on the bench for the last four games, serves a one-match ban today.
