Pablo Asensio has urged Whitehawk fans not to be spooked by wholesale squad changes.

The Hawks boss is confident a lack of National League experience will not be a problem when his cosmopolitan new-look squad kick off the coming season.

Asensio expects to complete what he sees as his major signing of the summer today as the club return to training.

The player concerned is believed to have a good track record in the division.

Hawks have so far brought back just three players from last season – Sergio Torres, Danny Mills and Chris M’Boungou – to go alongside a host of new faces, including several from Europe and South America. who are unused to the rigours of English football.

Asensio has yet to sign a goalkeeper after losing Craig Ross recently.

But he has compiled a shortlist of three for the two spots available in his squad.

After an unsettling start when he replaced Steve King in charge, the Argentinean led Hawks to the promotion play-offs last term and they were within a shot against the woodwork of reaching the final.

Now Asensio has rebuilt the squad he inherited - and worked with as King’s assistant.

He told The Argus: “Of course I was happy with the results at the end of last season and I loved every single player.

“I think they are fantastic players to play under some other manager but they do not suit the style we want to play from now on.

“What I want I want to do, and people don’t understand, is change the football philosophy of the club.

“In order to do that I prefer a different type of player – but equally as good.”

Asked if he could understand why some fans might be alarmed to see so much change, Asensio replied: “Some people are frightened of ghosts – but I don’t believe in ghosts.”

He believes the identity of his final outfield signing will reassure any fans worried about the changes.

Ex-Espanyol B defender Ramon Marimon is among those joining his new mates after arriving from Spain on Thursday night.

Hawks and Eastbourne Borough will know their league fixtures on Wednesday.
