Pablo Asensio has urged his clutch of overseas signings to make their name in England – by shining in the National League.

Hawks new-look, cosmopolitan line-up lost 3-1 at Weston-super-Mare on Saturday and make their home bow against Dartford tonight (7.45).

Boss Asensio has brought in several players from abroad – including Spain, Argentina and Brazil – and admits they are being paid part-time money for full-time commitment.

But he also recognises they are willing to accept those terms as they view Hawks as a stepping stone to bigger things in English football.

He believes it could be the formula to sending Hawks to promotion this season.

Asensio said: “There are six English players who are part-time and train twice a week. The rest are available full-time and can train on other days.

“Officially the club is part-time. The wages are certainly part-time. But we have players are coming here to prove they can progress in English football and make their name.

“They accept the conditions to get paid part-time but to train full-time. It’s their investment.”

Asensio is keen for his new boys to work on their English although some, such as midfielder Javier Favarel, are fluent.

He added: “The players have improved their English since arriving in July. My English is still bad but, when I came here from Argentina, it was zero.

“In three to four months I could live in England, I could communicate. They don’t need to be English teachers but they have to be able to communicate. We provide classes for them in the afternoons. They have time to study.”

Hawks hope French striker Wilfried Tagbo, who played in Ireland last season, will receive international clearance in time for tonight’s game.
