Tommy Widdrington wants to see more of his loan star with top-class connections.

Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, brother of Arsenal ace Alex and son of ex-England winger Mark Chamberlain, is set for his home debut as lowly Bishops Stortford visit Priory Lane.

The Portsmouth youngster made a bright start at Truro last week and Widdrington believes he can add strength to attack.

The Borough boss said: “In a way I feel a bit for him because he has the famous name but he’s a terrific lad and let’s not forget he is only 19.

“He needed to get more men’s football and he is versatile. He’s a forward thinking player, strong on the ball and built like, well, an ox.

“My son has been with him at Portsmouth for a long time and Portsmouth play a similar style to us.”

Borough have a good record with loan deals and both Callum Buckley (Bournemouth) and Jake Sheppard (Reading) did well last season.

Widdrington added: “Usually if a loan works, it works for everybody. We had a couple of boys here who went back and got new contracts with their clubs.”

Borough tackle their first home game for four weeks under orders to keep next Saturday’s FA Cup first round tie at Braintree firmly out of their minds.

They have been tough to beat and have enjoyed their cup run.

But they could do with a league win to get them moving back up the table.

Widdrington said: “It’s now six weeks since we lost and going unbeaten so far in October has really pleased me.

“We had a heavy defeat to Chelmsford but we have reacted very well as a team.”
