Whitehawk are back in the national spotlight – after a dramatic end to their FA Cup tie.
Hawks face a first round replay with Stourbridge after Javier Favarel fired home a volley just after the referee blew for full-time.
The incident, which saw Hawks keeper Ross Flitney dismissed for dissent, has made headlines.
In footage, ref Robert Whitton can be heard whistling for time as Favarel makes contact with his right-foot volley.
Stourbridge keeper Matt Gould then kicks the ball towards Hawks players as they surround the ref.
Hawks boss Richard Hill said: “I said to the referee, ‘Why don’t you just wait two seconds’ but time is up so he has to blow the whistle.”
The incident has been likened to a famous flashpoint in the 1978 World Cup when Welsh referee Clive Thomas ruled out an “after-time” Zico goal against Sweden.
Radio presenter Danny Baker tweeted: “Referee at tiny Whitehawk FC FA Cup tie today another one of these attention seeking idiots who blow for time while ball is on way into net.”
To compound Favarel's frustration, his potential moment of glory came after several weeks on the bench waiting for his big chance under Hill's management.
The Argentinean midfielder was tipped for big things when signed in the summer by his compatriot Pablo Asensio, who was then sacked early in the season.
