Former Crystal Palace midfielder Tommy Black headed Grays level just before half-time at Priory Lane.

Jay Lovett's first league goal of the season looked to have given Eastbourne Borough the advantage in the opening 45 minutes.

Lovett converted the simplest of chances in the 13th minute following a poor piece of play by substitute goalkeeper Rob Beckwith.

Beckwith had replaced Steve Arnold who had collapsed clutching his knee when making a clearance after just five minutes.

The stand-in keeper was slow off his line though as Jack Jeffery chased down Neil Jenkins' through ball and, although he made a block with his legs, the ball rebounded for Lovett to stroke into an empty net.

That was as good as it got for Borough though with their only other chances falling to Danny Brown who headed wide twice from Matt Crabb corner.

Grays went close to equalising in the 18th minute when Andy Pugh headed onto the bar from a Jamie Taylor cross.

Taylor again provided the cross in the 45th minute and this time substitute Black made no mistake to nod home from close range at the far post.
