Arsenal’s season continued to unravel as they were deservedly beaten by an impressive Brighton side at the AMEX Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners went into the contest on the back of damaging defeats to Manchester City in both the Carabao Cup final and the Premier League, as well as losing the home leg of their Europa League tie with Ostersund.

Manager Arsene Wenger remains under intense pressure following this 2-1 defeat, with a large section of the travelling support calling for his head at one point in the first half.

Wenger had said confidence was low at the Emirates Stadium and it showed as Seagulls skipper Lewis Dunk opened the scoring on seven minutes before Glenn Murray doubled the advantage.

Arsenal responded in fits and starts, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turning home the consolation before the interval, but the Gunners left for north London still with only three away league wins to their name this season.

Star man – Pascal Gross

The Brighton man is up for the Premier League player of the month award for February and the German playmaker carried that form over into March with another fine outing. He has claimed more league assists this season than much-lauded compatriot and Arsenal counterpart Mesut Ozil and provided the perfect cross for Murray to head home the vital second goal on Sunday.

Moment of the match

Thirty-three minutes into this contest could arguably mark a watershed in the diminishing relationship between Wenger and the Arsenal fanbase. A vocal minority have been calling for him to leave for some time but protests and marches have been sparsely attended. On the south coast, however, with their team 2-0 down a large majority of away supporters began the chant of “we want Wenger out” – with the Frenchman no doubt picking up on the ditty.

Data point

Arsenal have now gone 11 Premier League games without a clean sheet, their worst run since February
2002, with Petr Cech stuck on 199 clean sheets in the division.
