Kevin Keehan insists he is happy to step back into management – albeit only for a game or two.

The former Lewes boss was yesterday placed in caretaker charge of Whitehawk following the sacking on Thursday evening of Darren Freeman.

Former Albion favourite Freeman was axed with Hawks third from bottom on Conference south, having struggled to adapt at the sixth tier of English football after three promotions in four seasons.

Keehan will be at the helm for today’s trip to high-fliers Bishop’s Stortford and possibly the home match with Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday, February 4.

He endured an unhappy spell as manager of Lewes during their one season in Conference premier in 2008-09, having controversially replaced Steven King just a week after the Rooks won the Conference south title.

Ironically, King is the early frontrunner to be named as the permanent replacement to Freeman.
