Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington is delighted with his penalty-saving goalkeeper Lewis Carey.

The former Bristol City stopper saved a spot-kick as Borough drew 0-0 away to fourth placed Ebbsfleet United in Vanarama Conference south on Tuesday.

It followed Carey saving two penalties as Sports beat Enfield Town in an FA Cup replay shootout seven days earlier.

The 21-year-old has impressed since joining from Tonbridge Angels in the summer to replace the departing Craig Ross.

He was recently rewarded by Widdrington with an extended contract which will keep him at Priory Lane until the end of next season.

The Borough manager is pleased with his heroics but also has a warning for Carey’s team-mates.

Widdrington said: “I’m pleased for Lewis but more concerned about giving penalties away.

“I said to the players that Lewis is paid to stop them going in but you lot aren’t paid to give them away.

“I think highly of Lewis and he has been excellent so far. The standard he has set means even if he makes a bad pass you think, ‘You are better than that, Lewis’.

“I’m pleased he is getting the recognition he deserves.”

Borough are away to Ryman premier side Kingstonian in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bognor have followed the loan signing of former favourite Jason Prior by snapping up midfielder Omarr Lawson.

The 21-year-old was part of Dulwich Hamlet’s successful youth team but is now studying in the Bognor area.

He has previously had trials with Watford, Cardiff and Portsmouth and can play up front.
