Lewes boss Garry Wilson insists the only pressure he is under is the pressure he puts on himself.

The vastly experienced Wilson knows results this season have not been good enough, with the Rooks currently one point off the bottom of Ryman premier.

But a crippling injury list has partly explained the struggles Lewes have endured so far and Wilson remains confident the squad is good enough to start climbing the table as long as they can find the consistency in selection he craves.

While social media sites prematurely throw up names of possible successors, the popular opinion in football is that Lewes have the best men for the job in Wilson and assistant Danny Bloor.

Now Wilson is determined to show over the next few games that a slightly changed squad can deliver the results everyone felt they were capable of at the start of the campaign.

Those changes include yesterday parting company with striker Terry Dodd, who has scored just once in 13 appearances since joining in the summer from Bognor where he netted 35 goals last season.

Full-back Lloyd Harrington joined the club earlier this week on a month’s loan from Ebbsfleet and another new signing could arrive before tomorrow’s Ryman premier trip to Enfield Town.

Matt Crabb has also come out of retirement to help the club.

Wilson, whose side have not played in the league for a fortnight, said: “We needed that break to get back on the training pitch and give one or two boys some recovery time.

“I’m not looking for excuses. Results have not been good enough and there is no hiding behind that.

“If you dig deeper the inconsistency of team selection due to factors out of our control has been awful. We need to find that level of consistency.

“I always feel under pressure but it is the pressure I put on myself.

“I feel with my experience I’m the right man to get results and I feel we have the right management team in place to get results.

“If we can get some wins in the next two, three, four games we should be more where we should be.”

Wilson is unlikely to pursue his interest in one-time Sheffield United midfielder Amos Kabeya who featured in Wednesday’s 1-0 league cup defeat to Peacehaven.

The Lewes boss took positives from that game when he had to slightly amend his desire to field an under-21 side in the competition due to the fact that opponents Peacehaven were unable to do the same.

Sam Crabb returned in that game and is now fully committed to the Rooks again, while older brother Matt Crabb also played.

A number of other players – including the third Crabb brother, Nathan, plus Phil Appiah, Nicky Wheeler and Jack Dixon – were rested but will be back tomorrow.

Gary Elphick will also feature tomorrow after vowing to play through the pain barrier ahead of having an operation on his broken wrist.

Wilson added: “That is the attitude we want, players pulling together.

“I will speak to Matt Crabb. He retired in the summer but I asked him to help us out. He is one of my players of old, and one of Danny’s, and we would like to keep him around the squad.”

Skipper Jack Walder, Henry Muggeridge and Alex Malins remain long-term absentees due to injury.
