Eastbourne Borough missed out on a place in the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in six years as they went down 1-0 at Dover Athletic last night.

Borough had been unable to break their Conference premier rivals down in the initial tie at Priory Lane on Saturday and it was a similar story in the replay at The Crabble.

Nic Deverdics secured Dover a home clash with League Two Morecambe next month by scoring the only goal eight minutes before the interval as he headed home a cross from Solomon Taiwo.

Lewis Carey kept Borough in the game with fine saves from Deverdics and Barry Cogan and Tommy Widdrington’s men felt they should have had a lifeline just after half-time when Taiwo appeared to handle the ball just inside the area only for the referee to wave away their appeals.

Meanwhile, in Ryman south Hastings United went down 1-0 at Corinthian Casuals but East Grinstead beat Carshalton 2-1 with both goals from Marc Pelling.
