Richard Pacquette scored twice as Eastbourne Borough claimed a place in the third round of the Sussex Senior Cup with a 5-1 win at home to County League division one side Newhaven.

There was a scare for the Vanarama Conference south hosts as Newhaven’s Ebou Jallow cancelled out Kiran Khinda-John’s early header midway through the first half.

But Matt Aldred restored Borough’s lead from 30 yards a minute before the break and they always looked comfortable in the second half.

Pacquette made it 3-1 on 65 minutes when he turned home Ryan Worrall’s shot, left-back Sam Beale added a fourth with a 25-yard free-kick eight minutes from time and Pacquette completed the scoring in stoppage time with a header from a right-wing cross.

Three Bridges eased through 5-1 at home to County League division two visitors Mile Oak. Williams Peauroux and Matt Daniel made it 2-0 at half-time, while Abu Touray, Lee Carney and Tony Garrod added further goals in the second half. Chris Paine grabbed a consolation for the visitors.

Goals from Brannon O’Neill and Tariq Richards earned Worthing a 2-0 win away to Horsham.

County League Crawley Down Gatwick knocked out local Ryman south rivals East Grinstead 3-1 with strikes from Josh Alcock (two) and Grant Rigler, Layton Schaaf replying for the Wasps.

Lucas Mann hit the only goal as Eastbourne United beat Crowborough 1-0 while Lewis Hole and Russell Eldridge scored as Little Common overcame Bexhill United 2-0. Scott McDonald missed a penalty for Bexhill when the game was goalless.
