Eastbourne Borough have tied down one of their brightest young prospects by handing Sam Beale a contract extension.

However, forward Elliott Charles has left the club to join Staines Town.

Left-back Beale has impressed since joining in the summer following his release by Brentford.

As well as his consistent displays on the left, Beale has chipped in with three goals, including two in his last three appearances.

His initial one-year deal with Sports has now been extended to the end of the 2015-16 season.

Manager Tommy Widdrington said: “Sam’s consistency to date has made him a firm favourite amongst the Borough faithful.

“While on one hand our priority is always the next game, we must also plan further ahead if we are to continue our progress as a club, both on and off the field.”

Meanwhile, Charles has left for a second spell at Staines.

The striker has scored just once since rejoining at the start of the season and the capture on Thursday of former Millwall, West Ham, Watford and Rangers striker Moses Ashikodi has paved the way for his exit.

Widdrington said: “Elliott is a great character and is rightly held in high affection by the fans at Borough. Everyone here at the club thanks Elliott for his contribution and we wish him the very best going forward.”

Ashikodi and Frankie Raymond, who has returned on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge, are in the squad for today’s game at Bishop’s Stortford.
