Whitehawk have already had enquiries from two Football League clubs for former Real Madrid and Liverpool youngster Gerardo Bruna.

The 23-year-old scored his first goal for the Hawks in last week’s 5-1 defeat of Chelmsford in Vanarama Conference south.

Bruna spent five years in Real Madrid’s youth system, then four as a professional at Liverpool as well as playing for Spain at the 2007 European Under-17 Championships.

He was without a club when Whitehawk manager Steven King offered him the chance to kick start his career.

His first two starts for the Hawks have attracted interest from three clubs – but Bruna is going nowhere for now.

King revealed: “We have turned down two invitations for Gerardo this week. A League One and a League Two club both invited him in for training. I have said they can watch him playing for us and if they want him we can have further discussions.

“We have also had an approach from a Conference premier club for him.”

King’s side are sixth in the table but their game today at struggling Weston-super-Mare has been postponed.

The Hawks boss believes they are still two players short of the squad he wants despite recently signing Bruna.

He said: “Even though the centre-half pairing have done really well I believe we are one centre-half short.

“The forwards are flying but we still need another striker. I have always liked to have four strikers in my squad.”

Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer’s loan spell at Macclesfield ends this weekend and the two clubs will hold talks after the weekend.

Today's game in Somerset was called off first thing this morning after heavy overnight rain.
