Lewes did all that was required tonight – and ground out a win against the bottom team.

A Luke Blewden strike on 32 minutes secured their 1-0 win at home to Bury Town in the Ryman League premier division.

And joint boss Danny Bloor insisted that was all that was needed as Rooks moved back to within a point of Harrow, who are just above the relegation zone.

Bloor said: “That’s now one defeat in nine for us and we will take the points after a couple of FA Trophy games.

“We know we can play a lot better than we did tonight but it was all about getting three points.”

Blewden fired home after Dean Lovegrove supplied the cross.

Bury had left-back Seb Dunbar sent off for a second bookable offence on 65 minutes.

Littlehampton Town will host Ashford United in the third round of the FA Vase on Saturday after an astonishing win last night.

George Landais and David Herbert scored two apiece as they beat Abingdon United 7-3 in a second round replay.

Abingdon arrived late and were 3-0 down inside half an hour as Landais (2) and Michael Hendrick scored and Mitchell Hand had a penalty saved.

Hand later scored a 30-yard free-kick, Dan Simmonds was also on target and Herbert’s double settled any nerves.
