Nine-man Whitehawk climbed back into the play-off places in Vanarama Conference south with a 1-0 win at home to Bishop’s Stortford.
Sam Deering scored the only goal with a 68th-minute penalty which he had won himself.
Hawks were down to ten men from the 29th minute when John-Paul Kissock was rather harshly sent off.
Despite the man disadvantage, the home side continued to press throughout and were rewarded when Deering was brought down by Ashley Miller.
They had to withstand late pressure and went down to nine men in the seventh minute of added time when Sergio Torres was dismissed for a high foot.
Eastbourne Borough’s disappointing festive period continued with a 1-0 defeat away to Basingstoke.
