Ian Chapman has signed a new contract to remain as Burgess Hill manager.

The former Albion favourite has penned a deal which will keep him at the Green Elephants Stadium at least until the end of season 2016-17.

Chapman’s side are currently 14 points clear at the top of Ryman south and unbeaten after 36 games.

He joined the Hillians at the beginning of the 2012-13 season after the club had narrowly avoided relegation the previous campaign.

In his first year, he guided the club to an eighth place finish and the following season they just missed out on a play-off spot after a late equalizer in the final game of the campaign at Sittingbourne.

As well as running the first team, Chapman also has responsibility for all football matters at the club in his role as director of football operations, overseeing the progress of the under-21s and under-18s teams and the development squad for younger players.

Chairman Kevin Newell said: “Ian has been an inspirational figure in leading the club forward with a style of football and all round philosophy which has been instrumental in raising the profile of the club, bringing success and with it the increased support we are now enjoying.

“Whatever happens in this year’s title chase, I am absolutely convinced that Ian is the right man to lead the team forward for the next few years, with the wealth of experience he brings to the club.

“Consistency of personnel in the squad has been an important part in our success this year and I want to ensure that consistency is reflected in the coaching and backroom staff. Ian has been a great example as both a man-manager and football strategist and I am happy to place the club’s football future in his hands.”

Chapman said: “I’m delighted to continue my role with Burgess Hill Town. I think we have been developing and improving with every game and the youth system we have introduced has already paid spectacular dividends.

“I know I have the backing of the chairman to keep moving the club in the right direction, which is an important factor for me.”
