Horsham have sacked joint-managers Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant – just hours after a securing a win that staved off the immediate threat of relegation.

The Hornets ran out 2-1 winners at home to Corinthian-Casuals to leave them eight points adrift of safety at the bottom of Ryman south with three games of the season remaining.

If they had lost they would have been relegated.

However, after the game the club decided to part company with player-boss Storey and co-manager Cant who took over at the start of January after Gary Charman stepped down.

A club statement read: “Horsham Football Club has tonight asked the management duo of Anthony Storey and Cliff Cant to vacate their position with immediate effect.

“Despite today's victory over Corinthian-Casuals, the club remains in a parlous position at the bottom of the table and thus needs to begin preparation for the new season immediately.

“Hornets chairman Kevin Borrett thanked both Storey and Cant for their efforts, which saw some early successes in January and kindled hope that Horsham would climb out of the relegation zone.

“However, results in February and March were disappointing and, though the pair were given time to turn things around, the club has failed to progress since the departure of player-manager Gary Charman at the end of last year.

“An announcement on their replacement will be announced later this week.”
