John Rattle insists Burgess Hill are determined to keep building on this season’s remarkable success.

The Hillians wrapped up the Ryman south title over Easter with four games to spare.

Their title-clinching win over Carshalton on Saturday was followed by only their second league loss of a superb season to Worthing on Monday.

They return to action today against in-form Whyteleafe with boss Ian Chapman demanding a response after the Rebels raid but general manager Rattle is confident the club is on an upward trajectory.

He told The Argus: “For us it has always been about progressing as a club.

“The ground has come on and looks good.

“The town is getting behind us and we are getting sizeable crowds. “There is a lot to be said about success breeding success but I hope that we can maintain this now or at least have a bigger fan base going into next year.

“While we have that, they can be guaranteed we shall keep investing in this club because we are a club moving forward.”

Rattle says Hillians will not rest on their laurels.

The immediate future is a chance to overhaul Peacehaven’s title-winning 107-point total of last season.

But one eye is on next season when they move up to Ryman premier for the first time.

Rattle said: “There are lots of exciting announcements to be made shortly and on the playing side we have a great manager. It is a privilege to be part of his management team along with Stuart Tuck and Paul Dollner.

“He (Chapman) is a huge, huge influence on this football club and I think we do things the right way. He has been involved in non-league football a long time and his ambition and the way he does things is different to anybody else.

“He invests in youth. We have four young kids on contract and had Greg Luer on contract, which has paid dividends, and I am sure we shall continue to do that.”

Luer was snapped up by Premier League Hull City for an undisclosed fee during the campaign after impressing in the green and black while Will Miles has been on trial with Stoke.

Winger was Luer was one of the stars of runs which saw Sutton United and Aldershot defeated in the FA Cup and Trophy respectively.

Asked if the success of the campaign has come as a surprise, Rattle said: “We always said we would push for the play-offs but what really got us in the headlines were the cup runs and then Greg.

“It’s been phenomenal and is something that doesn’t come along every year so we shall enjoy it and see where we go from here.

“We just want to build on what we have achieved this year and Kevin Newell (chairman) and myself have always had an ambition to give this town a football club and they are proving they want a football club.”
