Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington is hoping sickness will not disrupt his attempts to return to winning ways.

Borough’s impressive five-match winning streak – all with clean sheets – came to an end with a 3-0 defeat at St Albans on Easter Monday.

Simon Johnson missed the game through illness while Nat Pinney and Matt Aldred were also affected.

Widdrington himself also been bed-ridden by the bug this week and he is hoping no more players are struck down ahead of today’s match at second-placed Bromley.

He said: “There is obviously something going around, which happens. We have just got to work around it.

“Hopefully we won’t lose anyone else.”

Widdrington was not unduly concerned by the defeat at St Albans.

He added: “We have just got to dust ourselves down, get on with it and try to finish the season as strongly as we played throughout the whole of March.

“We are in a good place mentally and hopefully we will get back to doing well on Saturday.

“I wasn’t too disappointed with how we played on Monday, we just didn’t convert our chances. The scoreline flattered them a little and I’m not too concerned about it.”

Widdrington has confirmed contract talks are on-going with a number of players and he hopes to have some positive news soon.

Six players are already under contract for next season.
