Whitehawk maintained their challenge for a place in the Vanarama Conference south play-offs on a day when Horsham were relegated from Ryman south.

It was also a disappointing day for Peacehaven, who slipped into the Ryman premier relegation zone, while Worthing’s play-off hopes in the south division ended.

Goals from Sam Gargan (37 minutes) and Jake Robinson (84) were enough to give Whitehawk a 2-0 win at Wealdstone and move them four points clear of the chasing pack with two games to go.

Eastbourne Borough played well before going down 2-1 at leaders Bromley.

In Ryman south, Horsham’s 2-0 defeat at second-placed Faversham means they are formally relegated.

East Grinstead edged a step closer to survival with a 1-1 draw at Walton and Hersham despite playing the entire second half with ten men after Matt Harden was sent off for conceding a controversial penalty which gave the hosts the lead on the stroke of half-time. Ricky Freeman missed a second-half spot-kick for the Wasps before Richmond Kissi levelled with 17 minutes remaining.

Hastings United fought back from 2-0 down to level at South Park only for the hosts to win it 3-2 thanks to Chris Smith’s 85th-minute strike which completed his hat-trick. Hastings, who are one place above the drop zone, netted through an own goal and Tyrell Richardson-Brown.

Worthing won 3-1 at Tooting and Mitcham thanks to goals from Curtis Gayler, Lloyd Dawes and Omar Bugiel but can no longer make the play-offs after Whyteleafe’s 2-1 defeat of champions Burgess Hill. The Hillians had led through Joe Keehan’s third-minute strike.

Three Bridges fought back from 2-1 down to beat Walton Casuals 4-2 thanks to goals from Allan Tait (two), Tony Garrod (penalty) and Nathan Crabb.
