Eastbourne Borough boss Tommy Widdrington insists it is important to keep picking up points.

Borough are ninth in National League south ahead of today’s visit to lowly Basingstoke.

Widdrington is pleased with the start to the season, with just one defeat in the last six games.

He said: “The points we are picking up is the most important thing. There are teams who are playing better, are happier, scoring more goals but you have got to keep picking up points while you are doing that.

“If we continue to pick up the points as we have done so far we will be improving on last season and of course that is the aim.

“We don’t want to change too much and we can’t change too much with the size of the squad.”

Widdrington was pleased but not surprised that Borough followed a 4-0 August Bank Holiday defeat at Havant and Waterlooville with a goalless draw at home to Truro City last Saturday.

He said: “The four goals was a blip rather than a trend. We lost a man at 1-0 and didn’t reorganise well enough before the half-time. After the break we got ourselves reorganised and I though the lads did really well in the game.

“Last week we were facing a team who had also been conceding a lot of goals and I joked before it was probably going to be 0-0. That was the case but it wasn’t for the want of trying. We had a lot of chances, a lot of play and it was a game we should have won by two or three goals.”

Ryan Worrall could return from a groin injury but Nathan Collier (ankle) is a major doubt.
