Lewes hope to land a replacement for Steve Sutherland next week as they continue their hunt for new players.

The experienced centre-back has returned to Met Police after struggling with the travelling to the South Coast from his London base.

Rooks boss Steve Brown is eager to bring in some new signings and now a centre-back is among them.

Chris Breach could return from injury at home to Brentwood today while Jay Lovett and Richie Welch provide other options but Brown wants to replace Sutherland.

He said: “I am very close to a couple of signings but I don’t think I will get them before the weekend.

“They should be in place for the next game after that.

“Steve Sutherland has left the club. We had a seven-day approach from Met Police and he has gone back there. He got caught on the motorway a couple of times and just found the travelling too much.

“We have been looking for a replacement for him for ten days now. We have Jay Lovett and Richie Welch. We have players at the club but I need an experienced head to replace Steve.”

On-loan Brentford goalkeeper Nik Tzanev is available again today after missing the FA Cup defeat at Phoenix Sports last weekend.
