Sergio Torres has got Cup fever again.

The Whitehawk midfielder knows all about the magic of the FA Cup having played at Old Trafford for Crawley Town in the fifth round and also scoring the winner against Derby County during that momentous run.

Success has followed since he joined Steven King’s Hawks, with the club lifting the Sussex Senior Cup last season.

But Argentinian Torres is now relishing the chance to savour the competition again as Hawks face Gosport Borough today.

Torres said: “I fell in love with the competition four years ago when I played at Old Trafford but before that I don’t think I had ever been past the first game with my other clubs.

“We have been talking about it a lot with the boys and it would be brilliant to have a Cup run but we have a really tough game.”

Torres knows what affect a Cup run can have.

He added: “When I was at Crawley we were in the Conference and a lot of people started following us. A lot of people would stop us and thank us for putting Crawley on the map.

“It would be brilliant if we could do the same for Whitehawk as it is a great, little family club. We don’t have many fans but the ones we have are really loud and support the club.

“We have a good team as well and hopefully people will realise that it is not just Brighton and Hove Albion playing in Brighton.”

Hawks are bidding to reach the first round for the first time in the club’s history and have already drawn away at Borough but Torres says that counts for nothing.

He told The Argus: “It wouldn’t matter if we had won or lost against them before because the FA Cup is a completely different game.”
