Darren Freeman has hailed his latest signing as a player to get fans off their seats.

But the Lewes manager admits he could lose Yasin Ben El-Mhanni to a professional club if he continues to impress.

El-Mhanni features in several popular YouTube videos showing off his individual skills.

He looked bright in the 0-0 midweek draw at Met Police which halted a run of nine defeats.

Freeman has also brought in former Horsham player/manager Gary Charman, pictured below, to add versatility and experience.

But he has let Roynane Marsh-Brown go after he was sent off in last Saturday’s 4-3 defeat at home to Leatherhead.

The Rooks boss has thumbed through the contacts on his phone to bring in El-Mhanni and, before that, Havant and Waterlooville midfielder Nic Ciardini, who scored twice against Leatherhead.

He told The Argus: “Yasin played for Barnet and Aldershot and wants to get back into the game.

“There are a few league clubs looking at him but I know his agent well and managed to get hold of him.

The Argus:

“He plays in behind the striker or out wide and he is the sort of player who will get people off their seats.

“Nic is an outstanding player. He is Conference south quality, no doubt.

“I’ve known him for some time and I know he was a Lewes fans favourite when he was with the club before.

“I spoke to (Havant boss) Lee Bradbury and asked about him on loan.

“He was just back from injury and his attitude has been immense.

“His goal is obviously to get back in at Havant and he’s here to get fit.

“But he has led by example. He gives us 100%.”

Freeman also praised former Albion youngster Leon Redwood for his efforts at left-back in a welcome clean sheet against the Met.

But the Trophy tie against Hampton and Richmond will interrupt the boss’s rebuilding process.

He said: “We’ve had promising performances but, just as I feel we are not a million miles away, this game comes probably at the wrong time for us.

“I wanted to build on our performances on Saturday and Tuesday but we can’t use Nic in the Trophy and Junior Kaffo is cup-tied and it’s not the biggest squad.”

Marsh-Brown scored an own goal in the Leatherhead game but Freeman was particularly unhappy with his dismissal for two bookings in the space of five minutes as his side chased a point in the second half.

He said: “We played four games in ten days and, in two of them, we went down to ten men.

“That’s no good to us. I want them to be disciplined.”
