Steven King believes he can bring in a new striker to cover for the loss of injured Jake Robinson in league and cup.

But the Whitehawk boss is not putting a shock midweek defeat at lowly Basingstoke down to a lack of personnel.

Hawks aim to bounce back from that 3-1 reverse when they host struggling Weston-super-Mare.

The Seagulls were dumped in bottom spot by Basingstoke’s late goals which beat Hawks on Tuesday.

But King will be happy if his team’s performance mirrors what they produced in Hampshire.

He said: “It sounds crazy but I would go so far as to say it was probably the best we have played this season.

“We didn’t take our chances and we had one everyone thought was over the line but the linesman couldn’t give it because his view was obstructed.

“We beat St Albans 6-0 this season and we didn’t play as well then as we did on Tuesday. But we took our chances.

“We are top scorers in the league but Tuesday was just one of those nights.”

Robinson could be out for two more weeks with a hamstring problem, making him a major doubt for the FA Cup first round tie against Lincoln City.

Although King said no new signing was imminent, he has been talking to a target who would be available for the Cup tie.

He said: “I’m looking to bring a forward in for a month.

“There will also be maybe one or two going out on loan but I need to talk to them.”
