Baker off as Borough crash
4:52pm Monday 29th August 2011 in Non-League By Howard Griggs
Eastbourne Borough completed a miserable Bank Holiday weekend with a 3-1 reverse at home to Chelmsford City.
Having lost 3-0 at Welling on Saturday, injury-hit Borough offered little to cheer a crowd of 783 in a hugely disappointing display.
To complete their misery Darren Baker was sent off on 78 minutes for a second bookable offence and will now serve a one-match ban.
They were 2-0 down after nine minutes and never recovered. Ricky Modeste scored the first in the eighth minute with a low shot which squirmed underneath Rikki Banks and within 60 seconds Sam Cole inexplicably headed a Modeste cross into his own net.
Kenny Clark headed a third on 20 minutes, although skipper for the day Matt Crabb gave Borough a glimmer of hope two minutes later when making it 3-1.
Baker was dismissed 12 minutes from time for bringing down former Borough loanee Joe Benjamin.

How far do Borough have to fall before they get rid of the management team. County League?
The players were clearly at fault yesterday, completely off the pace and if you can hear what the management team are saying to the players you may begin to appreciate that you can't do a lot about players not following instructions when the squad is injury-hit and can't be tampered with too much. And all this 6 days after one of the most complete performances I've seen at the Lane in years. Keep the faith.
