Tina Cook produced another brilliant performance to lead the way for Team GB's eventers at Greenwich Park.
The Findon rider jumped a clear round on Miners Frolic in the cross-country and was inside the time limit.
It leaves Cook fifth in the individual rankings after her impressive rain-ravaged dressage yesterday, in sight of another medal finish in tomorrow's show jumping following her bronze in Beijing four years ago.
Zara Phillips, Nicola Wilson and Mary King also went clear, although King incurred 1.2 time penalties. The other member of the GB team, world No. 1 William Fox-Pitt is languishing in 22nd.
GB, collective bronze winners in Beijing, are second in the team event behind defending champions Germany and a nose in front of Sweden.
