Eastbourne Eagles are ready to hand Tom Brennan a National League debut at the age of just 15.

But their plan could be put on hold if he prefers to chase a unique British title four-timer.

Brennan, from Hassocks, competes in the second round of the British Youth Championship for 500cc bikes at Scunthorpe on Monday.

He is one of the favourites to take the crown but his title pursuit would be affected if he committed to league racing after his birthday on July 2.

Eagles chairman Martin Dugard, who also mentors Brennan as a racer, said he would have no worries about pitching the young talent into league racing.

He said: “We could have a bit of a dilemma because we want him to ride for Eastbourne after his 15th birthday.

“He would have to be ready and he would have to be better than what we had at that time but we believe he can score some points at that level.

“The plan is to draft him in as soon as we can but it might affect his Championship races.

“If he won the title this year, he would be the first rider to be British champion at 125cc, 150cc, 250cc and 500cc.”

Brennan regularly practises after Eastbourne meetings and impressed in similar circumstances at Mildenhall on Sunday.

Dugard said: “He won his second-half ride at Mildenhall in a faster time than some of the heats in the main meeting.

“He’s a quiet lad. He doesn’t throw his arms around or chuck his helmet down but he channels his aggression into his racing.

“He is very controlled. He would make a good poker player.”

Brennan could make his debut in the twice-postponed National League derby at home to Kent, which has been re-arranged for July 23.
