9:42pm Monday 3rd October 2011 in Eagles news By Brian Owen
Eastbourne will take an eight-point lead to Poole for the second leg of the Elite League Grand Final.
Eagles beat Poole 49-41 in tonight's first leg, capping a superb meeting with a last heat 4-2 as Bjarne Pedersen won with previously undefeated Chris Holder last.
As expected, Holder and Darcy Ward led the Poole challenge.
Skipper Cameron Woodward top scored for Eagles with 14+3 (7).
Eagles overcame a 16-14 deficit with three successive mid-meeting heat advantages.
But they only managed six heat wins against a powerful Poole side who are now arguably favourites to secure the title at Wimborne Road next Monday.
Eagles: Woodward 14+3 (7), Pedersen 9+1 (5), Gustafsson 8+3 (5), Kylmakopi 8 (5), Bridger 5+1 (4), Lahti 5 (4), Dryml r/r.
Poole: Holder 12 (5), Ward 10 (5), Watt 9 (4), Wolbert 5 (5), Andersson 3 (4), Wells 2+1 (3), Jonasson 0 (4)
