Of all the service stations in all the world you have to drive into ours!

Posted on 4:24pm Thursday 5th November 2009

The village of Nailsworth and the trip to The New Lawn didn’t disappoint. For once the motorway Gods had smiled on us. Well when I say smiled; I think someone up “there” was having a good laugh at the travelling Boro contingent. With the defeat on Tuesday night still fresh, we left Eastbourne with the intent of erasing the memories our cup exploits. Two hours into the journey and a comfort stop was in order. Small comfort for us though! I guess the only way to describe what awaited us is to re-work those classic lines from Casablanca. “Of all the motorway services in all the towns in all the world, they park in ours.”

Back With-Dean ?

Posted on 8:58pm Sunday 1st November 2009

Sunday afternoon’s news is not a shock. It’s a shame but it’s no surprise. Russell Slade and his assistants Dean White and Bob Booker have been let go, relieved of their duties, sacked!

A few steps to H (Block)

I watched the game with a couple of old school pals yesterday. Steve who doesn’t attend very often well ever, because it might rain. Also, with two young boys it’s quite expensive. Amongst other excuses.

Crashing out of the cup - and crashing on the A27

Posted on 7:50pm Thursday 29th October 2009

This time seven days ago I was looking forward to a weekend of cup football. Little did I realise, that we would in fact be treated, and I use that word reservedly, to not one but two cup ties. My day started earlier than usual on an away day with driving the team coach instead of the fans' bus and, with hindsight, I should have kept to my normal matchday routine. More of that later. The weather as we left Sussex was dire, and one or two fans even texted me to report back if the game was in doubt. The arrival in south London was a warm and nearly sunny. There was no risk of the match being off...

Aliens down the Lane

Fifteen brave souls. That was the number of hardy Boro fans that trekked to the far reaches of the North East and the 1st XI's latest away day.

Chancing in the Dark!

An evening match at Withdean these days is almost as rare, as a free parking street in central Brighton.

Various Albion fans sites are divided. Those few that call the Phone- In, are divided. But is Brighton and Hove it’s self divided?

Plenty in reserve

Posted on 4:57pm Thursday 8th October 2009

It's been a very interesting seven days since I sat typing the last blog. I have taken in first team action, reserves and under-18s in the space of four days. The Poppies of Kettering arrived at the Lane in the dizzy position of second, so we knew it was going to be a tough one. In fact as early as the second minute when a huge throw aided by a gusting wind cleared all and sundry to ripple the net. The man with the powerful arms was named Exodus. Thankfully, unlike the Bob Marley one, there was no "Movement of Jah people" so the goal didn't count. Credit has to go to Mr Atkin, our man in black for keeping his eyes on the ball and noting that no player touched it during its trajectory. However, that's probably where the affection towards our Andy's namesake finished. He didn't make the best of the remaining 88 minutes, and I had a huge smile on my face when, whilst booking Matt Smart (The Legend, and the hero of a new FB group) one very young fan shouted out "Why don't you book someone your own size!". Now that's a priceless observation.

Another loss at home , another sending off, another excuse laden post match interview with Russell Slade. Yes, it may well come together soon enough Russell, but how soon? Its no use getting a run of good results in April, it may be too late.

Oh, what a view!

Posted on 5:34pm Thursday 1st October 2009

It’s been another busy week, job searching and also having to rethink the plans to get Disney fit. It’s amazing how quick time passes by from one week to the next and the evenings have suddenly got darker a lot earlier, which makes the riding out a bit more hazardous. Some drivers don’t seem to understand that horses get spooked by their lights and charging past them at full speed. I’m sure they can only learn to obey the speed limits in the countrified area.

A bad week at the office

Posted on 5:10pm Thursday 1st October 2009

It's odd but sometimes I sit here and the words just fall into place. This week however, there seems to be a mental block. I was hoping to be singing from the highest peaks of a triumphant few days for the Boro. Pitchside, things certainly haven't gone according to plan. It was good to get over the 1,000 mark again for the visit of Tamuff, and we now average 1,287 a game at home. Yes it's a tad short of last season's figure but with other big clubs to come, I think we may hold firm. More displays like the one at Histon and we could nosedive! A blip on the radar is how I see the foray to Cambridge.

Out of the 6000 or so people who will attend Withdean on Saturday, there will be at least two who have no real desire to be there.
