British No. 1 Heather Watson has been given a bye through to the semi-finals of the Aegon International at Eastbourne.

Second seed Petra Kvitova, her scheduled quarter-final opponent today, has pulled out of the tournament with a hamstring strain.

Watson will now face the winner of the all-American quarter-final between qualifier Lauren Davis and Madison Keys.

German fifth seed Angelique Kerber is through to the semi-finals in the other half of the draw after beating former Eastbourne champion Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-1 in 65 minutes.

Kerber faces 2009 champion Caroline Wozniacki, who overcame young Italian firebrand Camila Giorgi 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.

Their match on centre court was delayed for around 15 minutes while an elderly male spectator received medical treatment in the South Stand.

Top seed Richard Gasquet is through to the semi-finals of the men's event with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Slovakian Martin Kilzan.

His next opponent is Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin, a 7-6, 6-2 winner against Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
